Fixed Wire Testing – How often?

It is important to keep a track of when fixed wire tests are due, along with any subsequent remedia works. Not only will this help you to ensure fixed wire testing is completed on time, but will cease any confusion when it comes to your building insurance.

Periodic Inspection and fixed wire testing is required at these intervals because an electrical installation can deteriorate over time. This can be because of general wear and tear, corrosion, excessive electrical loading or other unavoidable influences.

Dependant on the type of establishment, test frequencies can vary.

  • Schools, Colleges, Universites and other educational facilities should be tested every five years.
  • Buildings that serve the industrial sector should be tested every three years.
  • Commercial and Retail premises should be tested every five years.
  • Hospitals are tested once every year.
  • Leisure facilities, as well as cinemas and theatres, are tested once every year.
  • Construction sites are tested every six months.
  • Petrol stations are tested every three years.
  • Marinas are tested once every year.
  • Laboratories are tested every five years.

If you are unsure about how often your site/premises requires fixed wire testing, please get in touch and we’ll be happy to help.
