Fixed Wire Testing - How It Works

Periodic Fixed Wire Testing & Inspections, previously known as the Electrical Inspection & Condition Report, will determine if your electrical installation is safe and compliant with current Electricity at Work Regulations.

We will complete a structured programme of Fixed Wire Testing on your electrical installation. We will liaise with the nominated site contact, to ensure that disruption to your business is kept to a minimum. During the testing, any dangerous items are immediately brought to the attention of the on-site contact.

This is a thorough inspection, and everything electrical will be tested for wear and tear, as well as more obvious visual damage. Our engineers are experts in spotting any potential hazards within your internal system. We check all areas of your system including the main incoming supply point through to sockets, light fittings and other wiring accessories by injecting test voltages. This shows the true functionality of cables and connections.

Once testing is complete, our online technology enables the data collected by our engineers, to be sent directly to our offices. From this, comprehensive electrical installation condition reports are provided via our bespoke reporting system.

Am I Compliant?

It is important to keep a track of when fixed wire tests are due, along with any subsequent remedia works. Not only will this help you to ensure fixed wire testing is completed on time, but will cease any confusion when it comes to your building insurance.

Periodic Inspection and fixed wire testing is required at these intervals because an electrical installation can deteriorate over time. This can be because of general wear and tear, corrosion, excessive electrical loading or other unavoidable influences.

Dependant on the type of establishment, test frequencies can vary.

  • Schools, Colleges, Universites and other educational facilities should be tested every five years.
  • Buildings that serve the industrial sector should be tested every three years.
  • Commercial and Retail premises should be tested every five years.
  • Hospitals are tested once every year.
  • Leisure facilities, as well as cinemas and theatres, are tested once every year.

If you are unsure about how often your site/premises requires fixed wire testing, please get in touch and we’ll be happy to help.
