Periodic Inspection & Test Info
The IEE Wiring Regulations (BS7671 2008) state that all electrical
systems should be Inspected & Tested to provide, so far as reasonably
practicable for:
- The Safety of persons and livestock against the effects of electric shock and burns.
- Protection against damage to property by fire and heat arising from an installation defect.
- Confirmation that the installation is not damaged or deteriorated so as to impair safety.
- The identification of installation defects and non-compliances with the requirements of the regulations which may give rise to danger.
All electrical installations deteriorate over time due to a number of factors
such as wear, tear, corrosion, excessive electrical loading and environmental
influences. Consequently legislation requires that electrical installations
are maintained in a safe condition and must be periodically inspected.
Thee IEE Guidance Note on Electrical Test & Inspection recommends the following maximum periods between inspections.
| Commercial Installations | Change of Occupancy or 5 Years |
| Domestic Installations | Change of Occupancy or 10 Years |
| Industrial Installations | Change of Occupancy or 3 Years |
| ( A Full list can be found in section 3 of IEE Guidance note 3 /2008 page 63 ) |
Additionally many insurance companies will require a periodical test &
Inspection certificate within the terms of their cover. Therefore it is of
paramount importance that you ensure periodical Inspection & Testing is
completed within your installation.

What is a Portable Appliance? - It is any moveable appliance which connects to the power supply by a plug and socket
Electrical Load Monitoring Surveys
Electrical load monitoring is an essential tool to ensure your installation operates efficiently and safely. By completing a survey you can quickly identify if there are any Voltage, Frequency or loading anomalies present within your electrical installations distribution system.
The survey can also be utilised to identify any uneven loads present on 3 Phase systems, enabling these to be rectified resulting in an efficient electrical installation.

Thermographic Image Surveys
In the field of Electrical Safety Testing, Thermographic Image Surveys offer a non-intrusive, planned and protective maintenance solution to reinforce the information obtained within a Periodic Electrical Test & Inspection report.
It has become one of the most valuable diagnostics tools for predictive maintenance detecting anomalies early, often invisible to the naked eye and allows corrective action to be taken before costly breakdowns occur. This is becoming more and more popular as a cost effective means of meeting HSE and insurance requirements as well as allowing businesses to take steps to avoid unplanned maintenance shut downs
By utilising portable Thermal imaging cameras to survey electrical systems, any areas of elevated temperature can be identified via an infrared picture, coupled with a digital photograph of the item of equipment.
Elevated temperatures identified during the survey give early warning signs of potential loose connections or the overloading of equipment, enabling maintenance to be carried out on the equipment before a failure occurs resulting in either an interruption of supply or in severe cases a potential fire.
Quantec complete all thermographic surveys in accordance with the BSRIA - Guidance & Standard Specification for Thermal Imaging of LV Electrical Installations & IEE Guidance Note 3 (2008).
